The journey begins in Palermo. Sicily’s cultural capital, it is a city rich in history, art, music and food.
Itinerary:
La Dolce Vita Orient Express departs in the morning from Palermo. At midday, indulge in a delightful lunch on board curated by 3 Michelin starred Chef Heinz Beck. In the afternoon, the train arrives in Taormina, a charming town nestled along the rugged cliffs of Sicily’s eastern coast. Immerse yourself in history and splendid views or reserve optional curated experiences to discover the wonder of the island. As night descends, the train departs, continuing its journey towards Maratea.
On the second day, wake up to the aroma of a homemade Italian breakfast, featuring freshly baked pastries and rich coffee. Experience the unique journey of the train being decoupled and loaded onto a ferry to cross the Strait of Messina. Upon arriving in Maratea, you have free time to visit the city or enjoy optional curated experiences. As evening falls, bid farewell to Maratea as the train departs for Rome Ostiense, marking the conclusion of your unforgettable journey.

ARRIVAL IN ROME AND ORIENT EXPRESS LA MINERVA
After a luxurious rail journey, you’ll disembark La Dolce Vita in Rome, where the newly unveiled Orient Express La Minerva awaits. Opening in Spring 2025, this hotel marks a milestone as the first Orient Express hotel property, perfectly positioned in Piazza della Minerva, steps from the Pantheon.
The property, formerly known as Palazzo Fonseca and dating back to the 17th century, occupies an entire island site. Following a comprehensive renovation, the building’s interiors and historical features have been meticulously designed and restored under direction of Franco-Mexican artist architect and interior designer Hugo Toro.
- Accommodation: The hotel features 93 rooms and suites, including 36 suites and 4 Signature Suites. Ranging from 25 to 235 square meters, each space is adorned with Art Déco elements and contemporary elegance. Signature Suites boast unparalleled views of the Pantheon and Piazza della Minerva.
