VOYAGE OVERVIEW:
Departing July 26, and returning August 15, 2023, escape the winter gloom back home as you explore the dazzling coastlines of Southern Italy and the Cote d’Azur, venturing beyond the glitz and glamour to discover a world of canal-laced towns and rolling vineyards, lively town markets and romantic hilltop villages worthy of UNESCO World Heritage status.
From Barcelona, you’ll explore the breathtaking bays and charming towns along the Cote d’Azur, before visiting Malta then cruising Southern Italy up the Amalfi Coast. Enjoy port days in Rome, Sardinia and Portofino, before sailing back to France and the beach resort town of Cavalaire-Sur-Mer and Sete. The final few days are spent returning to Barcelona, visiting Valencia and the Spanish island of Palma De Mallorca along the way.

PORT EXCURSION HIGHLIGHTS
AMALFI COAST, ITALY
The Costiera Amalfitana, stretches along the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula in Salerno province and can rightly be defined as a landscape of outstanding cultural value, thanks to the astonishing work of both nature and humankind.
Step aboard a motor launch at the pier and set out on an unforgettable cruise to, a picturesque coastal town where white Moorish-style houses cling to the slopes around a small sparkling bay. Once a fishing village, Positano has become a retreat for the wealthy and is now a popular resort area. Artists also appreciate the intimate setting and exquisite scenery. Enjoy some browsing at Positano’s boutiques, perhaps picking up an item or two of the casual cotton clothing for which this town is noted.
A separate excursion by motor launch from the port can take you the astonishingly colourful Grotta dello Smeraldo, the Emerald Grotto, just a short trip from Amalfi.
Take in the beauty of the coastline as you cruise along and upon arrival at the grotto, you’ll board a smaller local boat and enter the 100-foot-tall natural cavern. Marvel at the way the sunlight enters the cave via an underwater opening, casting a luminescent emerald glow through the water.
Return to Amalfi, where you’ll have free time to explore the main square, check out the grand cathedral and browse in the shops.
VALETTA, MALTA – A TASTE OF MALTA
Travel from the port to the south of the island, and the picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk where colourful luzzu fishing boats bob about in the quaint harbour. Enjoy some free time to have a coffee and explore the seaside village, including the lovely town square dominated by the Parish church. Note at the top of the portico, the Virgin Mary herself is depicted riding on a luzzu.
Meet with the fishermen as they return from the sea and hear stories from your guide about the harbour whose interesting history includes the hosting of the Malta Summit between US President George H. W. Bush and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. The summit signaled the end of the Cold War.
Next, board your coach for panoramic drive to cosmopolitan St Julian’s. Once a simple fishing village, St Julian’s’ proximity to a cluster of top hotels and Malta’s buzzing nightlife zone has seen it evolve into a gastronomic meeting point for foodies and wine-lovers. The Love Monument you’ll see here was created by one of Malta’s eminent architects — Professor Richard England.
You’ll stop at a quayside restaurant specializing in Maltese food to sample a selection of island delicacies and some local wines — an authentic introduction to what the locals love to eat.
CAVALAIRE-SUR-MER, FRANCE
The southernmost beach resort along the Cote d’Azur, Cavalaire-Sur-Mer takes pride in its distinction from nearby St. Tropez. Where the latter is all about glamour and glitz, and notably expensive in season, Cavalaire has a family-friendly atmosphere that mainly exploits its three-mile sandy beach and a wide variety of water sports to be enjoyed in the clear, clean waters.
You have the option to join a tour group, or even hire your own private vehicle, to go at your own pace along the coastal roads that afford magnificent views over the Mediterranean shoreline.
Discover the charming village of Bormes Les Mimosas — an authentic medieval Provençal village, renowned as one of the most attractive in all of France. A winning combination of benign climate, fabulous panoramas and flower-filled charm attracts many artists, painters, sculptors and craftspeople to the village. Some of the streets are so steep they are referred to as rompi-cou — neck-breakers!
Join a walking tour through the narrow bougainvillea-lined streets, or explore on your own with ample time for shopping or relaxing at a café.
