We are taking on the Serengeti Girls Run

We are proud to be supporting empowerment initiatives for girls in Tanzania by joining the 2024 Serengeti Girls Run

At Jigsaw Travel, we are committed to working with partners and suppliers that are making a difference in their local regions – through initiatives such as supporting local communities and cultures, and leading wildlife and environmental conservation projects. As advisors of travel, we consider it our responsibility to remain actively aware in this space, so we can know the experiences and operators around the world that operate ethically, and impart this knowledge to our clients, enabling you to make informed decisions.

We have especially admired the work of Singita in this space and are excited to share that our Managing Director, Rachelle Matheson will be joining the 2024 Serengeti Girls Run – a multi-stage, all-women run. The event will be held in early November, and will see runners traversing 63km in three days across the pristine wilderness of Singita Grumeti’s private concession in the Serengeti – home to an abundance of wildlife and a unique ecosystem. This incredible event is part of Singita and the Grumeti Fund’s ‘Safaris with a Purpose’ and will raise funds for empowerment programmes for girls in rural Tanzania.

BE A PART OF PRESERVING AFRICA’S LEGACY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE AN ENORMOUS IMPACT

We invite you to join us in supporting the important work of the Grumeti Fund, by making a
tax deductible donation to our Jigsaw Travel Serengeti Girls Run fundraiser. Your contribution will help fund a range of empowerment initiatives for girls covering education, healthcare, gender equality and a positive impact on communities:

  • Scholarships for 80 local girls in secondary school, vocational studies and university
  • Empowerment events for 5,000 high school girls
  • A year’s supply of sanitary towels for 5,000 high school girls so that they can attend school with dignity and pride
  • Mentorship program
  • Life skills training

We are aiming to raise $25,000 for the Grumeti Fund and will be kicking things off with $7,500 from the Jigsaw Travel team. We openly share with you that it is a requirement of Serengeti Girls Run participants to fundraise for the Grumeti Fund. All fundraising is completely separate from travel and accommodation expenses, which Rachelle will be covering herself.

As a participant of the Run, Rachelle will have the opportunity to learn first hand about the Grumeti Fund’s community and conservation programmes. This includes a career fair for local high school girls, a visit to the Anti-Poaching Canine Unit and a tour of the new center for Research and Innovation for the Serengeti Ecosystem (RISE).
We look forward to sharing this with our supporters on her return.
